CHICKENS
The name "Chickens" came from the fact that the breaks are located off the island, which was once used mainly as a chicken farm. Chickens is one of the Maldives' longest and most vibrant lefts. They can occasionally generate 10sec barrels and are pretty consistent. At Chickens, a clean groundswell from the southeast is in effect.
The wave handles all phases of the tide, but the best possibilities for a double-digit barrel are when the wind is light and the tide is arriving mid to high tide with the least amount of current. Because Chickens improves with size—best at head high to double overhead—the best time to visit is from May to October, with the southeast waves of July and August producing the most consistent surf, often ranging from 2 to 8 feet. Even when the surf is high, Chickens is unlikely to be overcrowded.
