SUMMER ISLAND MALDIVES’ 3D REEF MAKES ITS WAY TO WORLD RECORDS
Summer Island Maldives has submerged a 3D artificial reef in the year 2018 with the hope of creating a new aquatic ecosystem by providing a home for the underwater creatures. This was created near a sandy part of the island’s lagoon. This piece of work has been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind.
The Maldives is also recognised to be the lowest lying country in the world. Hence, utilising modern technologies this way could be a responsible step when thinking about the challenges of climate change and sea level rising. The managing staff at the resort also highlighted the fact that tremendous amount of work needs to be done to protect our environment.
It is worth mentioning that a model of the 3D piece is on display at one of the most prestigious museums in New York, Museum of Modern Art.
